Eddie Peabody served in the US Navy during WWI. His time spent on submarines would later come to the attention of one of his many fans, Franklin D. Roosevelt. Eddie was asked to entertain at the White House and there, FDR spoke to Eddie about a rising threat by a man named Adolph Hitler. Given Eddie's familiarity with submarines, and his convenient cover as a world renown entertainer, he was the perfect candidate to go into Germany and spy on Hitler's machine.
This is a well written thriller based on that mission and, knowing that these events are actual brings the tension to a high pitch until the very end of the novel. As you read the book you will feel a personal attachment to "Little Eddie" and it will seem as if you are along side of him in Nazi Germany, in harms way. I highly recommend this book; besides the entertainment value, it will give you a great insight into a man who should be remembered and esteemed for his life-risking commitment to his country as well as for his contribution to modern music. After reading this you will be saying to yourself, as per the late Paul Harvey "And now you know the rest of the story".

Man with the Banjo edition by George Robert Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
What an excellent read! I'm a huge fan of Eddie the banjo player but did not know this other side of his life too well. The book would make a brilliant film or stage play and George has really done his Father proud by sharing this part of the career that Eddie had. I have re-read the book at least twice now and I know it will get at least a few more reads, cover to cover. Well worth getting whether you are a banjo fan or not!
Great war story; fascinating, that a top-rated show-biz entertainer has this background. Seeing him on stage gives no inkling that Eddy Peabody was involved in covert operations. That he was on-the-run in troubled Europe just prior to outbreak of war and managed to get back home with his banjo intact was just incredible. I feel there is a lot more here, to come, and do hope George Robert will release Vol 2 soon, I like his very readable style. Thank you George. Banjo Jack.
Eddie Peabody (better known as the "King of the Banjo") was an extremely successful and famous banjo player in the 1920's and 30's (and actually up until his passing in 1970). Eddie started in vaudeville, was in several movies, cut many albums and was on such television shows as Lawrence Welk and Johnny Carson's "Sun City Scandals". He was a true American patriot having served in the US Navy in both WWI and WWII.
The "Man with the Banjo" is about a small piece of Eddie's life as a covert naval officer prior to WWII, full of intrigue and mystery. Eddie was apparently given a secret commission by President Franklin D. Roosevelt to help uncover Hitler's clandestine pre-war efforts. The book uncovers Eddie's adventures, including his command performance for Adolf Hitler, and his timely escape from the Gestapo shortly thereafter after having been exposed as an undercover naval officer. "The Man with the Banjo" combines fact, gently stirred with a slight bit of fiction to offer a well-written unique glimpse into the not well publicized past of a very unique, talented and patriotic individual.
